CUBRID IT! Programming challengeCUBRID is having a programming contest! I like programming contests that almost anyone can enter, and this one is interesting for a different reason than some others. For those who do not know, CUBRID is:

a comprehensive open source relational database management system highly optimized for Web Applications, especially when complex web services process large amount of data and generate huge concurrent requests. By providing unique optimized features, CUBRID enables to process much more parallel requests at much less response time. With CUBRID, organization will benefit from superior performance, stability, scalability, and high availability required by companies to provide non-stop services to their valuable customers.

What this really means is that CUBRID is yet another open source RDBMS that you can use in your applications. Yes, MySQL is what a lot of people use, but it is always good to have options.

The CUBRID programming contest was announced yesterday, and runs for about 3 weeks. The basic idea is that the CUBRID team will propose a problem that you need to solve. The contest is fairly straightforward, but more importantly they have some cool prizes:

We have great prizes for you! The 10 participants, who will score the highest, will get the following prizes:

  • 1st place – Apple iPad 2
  • 2nd and 3rd place – Amazon Kindle
  • 4th and 5th place – Nikon Coolpix S3100 Digital Camera
  • 6th to 10th place – Amazon 50$ gift certificates

The contest page has all of the details of the problem as well as links to CUBRID distributions for most major platforms.
