		<description>The way I see it, the problem is that if we can&#039;t come together and agree on at least the basics, then we are completely unable to &quot;organize&quot; our profession in any way. Every process, science, engineering, etc. needs some set of common &quot;principles&quot; that must be agree to by all. We don&#039;t have anything like that. 

Until someone can authoritatively say what &quot;professional programming&quot; is, then there really isn&#039;t such a thing, is there? It is just a pile of stuff that people think might work (and of course the industry is proof that it doesn&#039;t). And as long as each programmer isn&#039;t willing to be objective about their technologies and practices, we won&#039;t come together and define any common ground. We&#039;re caught in an endless loop, just going round and round again on the same silly issues. At this rate we&#039;ll need a few hundred years to get ourselves sorted out.</description>
