Andy

Eventually, we will get filters for this type of thing. However, it seems like we have not really solved the spam problem, so that would take precedence.

imma,

I agree that sometimes strong opinions will lead people into a nasty argument that may sound like trolling. I think that tends to happen on sites like FriendFeed.

Unfortunately when you put up a medium where it's easy for people to contribute/share at a mass scale, there will be the ugly side. It's true for Internet websites, it's true for email, and it's true for comments sections on posts. Heck, it's even true in the real world - look at any bathroom wall. In time, there will be tools to help us find the stuff we want and filter through the things we don't want to see. It'll be hard to get right in a social media context, but would sure love to be able to get right to the good content in the comments than wade through the junk.

exactly - DNFTT pic: http://tinyurl.com/n8nkjh

Unfortunately, trolls are rather good at provoking a response - they need to be defused and/or ignored rather than fed & don't always mean to do it, sometimes they're just getting carried away

/me tries to never be a troll
*crosses fingers*

Well said. It's best to stay above the fray, and I hope if enough folks do it we can encourage others to do the same.
