Tilly,

I don't mind that there are many, but not working together is annoying. I don't blame MyBlogLog as they have been there forever. Google and Facebook are new to this and just decided to go their own way. The only problem is that MyBlogLog has been used mostly by bloggers. Any chance we get Yahoo to really hook it into their users?

Heya!

Great post! I think that having so many community widgets is both a good thing and a bad one. Its great to have options, but sometimes when there's a bunch of companies doing the same thing, it does start to get a bit confusing.

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery right? ;)

Aaron, that is a really interesting usage of the Google widget. I am definitely waiting to see what you put together.

There is functionality to be had even with the very limited set of tools Google has release with Friend Connect. I've integrated the wall widget into my blog theme to act as the comment boards for my site. Each board is created unique to each post. And you recent comments are listed in your profile between Friend sites which you are a part of. I also added the member widget to the side bar and the sign on widget to the banner area of my site. I think it integrates pretty well. I'm definitely looking forward to what comes next but the fact that you can join a ("my") site using your Openid, AIM, Yahoo, or Google account and be part of the "community" really is killer. I plan on documenting at little more of how I put it together, hopefully I can get that finished in a day or so. Check it out at http://aaron.slyness.org/
