From everything I’ve heard about the iPhone, it’s not a bad phone, but you can get a better phone for the money. People prefer it because it’s pretty and trendy. Well, I think getting anything at all because it’s trendy is imbecilic.

Personally, I think Apple should have offered their iPhone to Sprint. Sprint rolled out an “everything” plan for $99 which includes data and phone service, and that would have been a huge incentive for people to purchase, even at full price, the iPhone.

However, I understand why Apple went with Cingular (now AT&T). AT&T is a brand more people recognize with stability and excellence and their coverage area is wider. Plus, Sprint customers would have been upset by the lack of Sprint TV offered on the iPhone, and Apple would have been upset that Sprint TV would have captured more of an audience than downloading movies and TV shows at their iTunes store.

I new that this time around was going to be more of the same. Huge line, no service, no inventory, horrible customer service, etc…AT&T couldn’t get it right the first time, what makes you think they would get it right the second time around ? I think if you never had an iPhone maybe go through the trouble, but if you already have one, why go through the headache for another one. Makes no sense. Apple always launches news products with very low inventory to create excitement and demand. I did it once with the mini me, and never again. I can wait, if I really want an Apple Anything.

Thankfully, my contract is up and it is time for a phone upgrade. So, no early termination fees for me.

As I had said, the price comparison was purely anecdotal. One big problem is that the iPhone costs a minimum of $199, but I can get a Blackberry Curve almost free. The family plan that I have now costs $139 (w/data) and the equivalent iPhone plan costs $169.

Regarding the “fanboy” comment, the whole post was meant to be “tongue-in-cheek”. Granted I am not an Apple fanboy, but it was a poor attempt at humor.

I agree, interesting perspective. The touch screen keyboard did take a little getting used to – after a few days/maybe a week, it’s was a non-issue for me. And I too prefer to hold it in landscape mode to type with my thumbs (when I’m “allowed to”)

I’m not sure I understand you’re point. If you can afford a BlackBerry with data, you can afford an iPhone plan.
I did some research on it and they were identical (including the new 3G $30 unlimited data).

The fact you’re going out of your way to write a blog and dignify this as a reason for not buying a product is just a lamely partisan. Reminds me of the Chevy (the MS of cars) drivers that refuse to drive “them foreign cars.” Both BB and iPhone are great devises. And we’ll all find our favorite solution.

My reasons are:

1. I can’t afford one right now (yes, even with price cut – bills come first)

2. My contract with T-Mobile doesn’t end until Jan. and I can’t afford the early termination fees.

that’s it, actually. I really, really want it!

(I am concerned about the keypad though – or lack thereof – I can type fast on my Blackberry!)

Hmmm… I’ve not been long enough to talk ’bout the even numbered service pack thing. I have witnessed the “v3″ thing though – .NET 1 was shit, 2.0 was usable, 3.0 just rocks

So, I think I’ll buy iPhone v4. I guess.

I totally forgot about that. Excellent point. If I remember correctly, you can only use even numbered service packs as well.
